Sydney Metro City Awarded Tunnelling Project Of The Year at the NCE Tunnelling Festival 2020

We are thrilled to announce that our customer John Holland CPB Ghella (JHCPBG) has been awarded Major Project of the Year (over €500M) at the International Tunnelling Association (ITA) Awards 2020.

Sydney Metro is the most imposing infrastructural project in all of Australia, and it involves the development and the building of the Sydney metro network.

MCT Marcantonini Concrete Technology, a world class supplier, helping deliver Sydney Metro:

  • We built over 100.000 concrete segments in less than two years
  • We cast one concrete segment every six minutes
  • Lining twin 15,5 Km under Sydney Harbour

This prestigious award recognizes technical excellence and achievement in overall project delivery among the very best tunnelling projects across the globe.
JHCPBG has delivered 15.5km twin tunnels, 6 new station excavations and multiple complex caverns, in the heart of Australia’s most densely populated city.

Excavation with the TBMs was completed in the early months of 2020, in just 17 months, and three weeks ahead of schedule. The staff included over 560 technicians and engineers, and over 1,800 workers, for a total of more than 10 million work hours.

Just as important is how the project was delivered with safety, minimal impact on the community and traffic network, and industry leading sustainability innovations. These included the legacy of transferable skills and qualifications for thousands of people through our tailored tunnel training, skills development programs and career opportunities for students, indigenous people and disadvantaged groups.

Congratulations to the entire ONE TEAM on this incredible achievement!
