MCT’s capability bolstered at Auckland Airport

Ready Mix
New Zealand

Auckland Airport is well underway with its biggest redevelopment since the airport opened in 1966 which includes combining the international and domestic terminals, plus a number of other key projects associated with that development including taxiways and a new transport hub. Along with the Airport’s construction programme other commercial and infrastructure projects are either about to begin or well underway, all requiring large volumes of concrete. Firth, MCT Italy long lasting customer, is the primary supplier to the numerous contractors involved making Auckland Airport plant the busiest in the country.

“As part of the extensive changes to the terminals for Auckland Airport work has also started to deliver Stage Two of its NZ$288 million Taxiway Mike and Remote Stands project through for the pavement. A new taxiway, to extend an existing taxiway and deliver six remote stands with in-ground jet fuel reticulation as part of the capital works programme will be built”. says Jamie Frew, National Commercial Account Manager for Firth.

“As the Airport Company continues with their construction programme and the surrounding airport precinct is also growing at speed, we are bolstering Firth capability at the airport with an additional batch plant to ensure supply to the customers is uninterrupted,” says Falchetti Gabriele, VP Business Development for MCT Italy.

The recent concrete pavement trials were successful by using the Wirtgen SP94i slipform Paver and TCM 180 texture curing machine – the largest paving train available in Australasia, and the first and only one of its kind in New Zealand.
